Every time it rains water will be falling off of the edge of your house s roof right onto the bushes which will damage them and erode the soil. Drip irrigation is a low pressure low volume watering system that saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants either onto the soil s surface or directly onto the root zone through a network of valves pipes tubing and emitters. If you plant beneath an overhang be prepared to water these plants throughout the growing season. Secondly think about your roof its overhang and the drip edge of your roof.

Notice how the trees and shrubs in this foundation planting are placed beyond the drip line of the overhanging eaves.
